Does The Thickness Of The Flexible Wall Panel Affect The Construction?

The thickness of flexible wall panels has a significant impact on construction. Thicker is not always better, nor is thinner always easier to install. The key is to choose an appropriate thickness based on the construction scenario and substrate conditions. A suitable thickness improves construction efficiency and long-term stability, while an insufficient thickness increases construction difficulty and creates potential quality issues. This is a crucial detail to consider during procurement and construction.

 

Currently, the common thickness for flexible wall panels is 0.3-0.8mm. The differences in construction between different thicknesses are mainly reflected in three core aspects. First, the difficulty of installation: panels that are too thin (<0.3mm) lack flexibility, are prone to wrinkling and damage during construction, and are prone to edge lifting after bonding; panels that are too thick (>0.8mm) are too rigid, making them difficult to shape when applied to curved surfaces and corners, easily creating gaps and increasing the risk of hollow spots.

 

Secondly, there's the bonding effect. Thinner boards make a tighter contact with the substrate, requiring only a thin coat of special adhesive for a secure bond, resulting in high construction efficiency. Thicker boards require more adhesive and repeated compaction; otherwise, weak adhesion and eventual detachment are likely, especially noticeable in old wall renovations and curved surface construction.

 

Thirdly, there's the finishing and aesthetics. Thinner boards better adapt to inside and outside corners and curved surfaces, resulting in smoother finishes and less of a stepped appearance. Thicker boards require precise cutting; otherwise, uneven seams can affect the overall aesthetics. Furthermore, thickness also affects material waste; excessively thin boards are prone to breakage, while excessively thick boards increase cutting difficulty and material consumption.
