Check The Thickness And Weight Of The Sound-absorbing Panels.

Apr 03, 2026

Some common sound-absorbing panels on the market improve sound insulation by increasing their thickness and weight. While this method can improve sound insulation to some extent, it has many drawbacks: (1) Low sound insulation efficiency (i.e., increased sound insulation volume). According to physical laws, doubling the surface density of a board theoretically increases sound insulation by a maximum of 6 decibels; quadrupling the surface density only increases sound insulation by a maximum of 12 decibels. (2) Thicker panels occupy more space, resulting in a greater loss of valuable living space. (3) Heavier panels are more difficult to install; and the weight of the panels also raises concerns about the floor's structural integrity. (4) Thicker and heavier panels require more raw materials, leading to higher panel prices, installation costs, and a greater loss of living space, ultimately resulting in a higher overall project cost.

Acoustic panels are a type of sound insulation material based on a completely new sound insulation principle. Their significantly improved sound insulation effect is not achieved by increasing weight or thickness; in fact, the panels are only 18 millimeters thick, or even thinner. However, a light steel frame wall constructed from these panels can achieve a sound insulation effect of 53 decibels. With a suitable wall combination scheme, the sound insulation effect can even reach 80 decibels. Among acoustic panels of the same thickness and weight on the market, these panels not only have the best sound insulation effect but are also many times better than any other acoustic panel of the same thickness and weight.
